Great question, I will do my best to answer this for you. As you know depending on the sales system you may have to put money into advertising, whether on the net,phone or taking out an ad in your local paper or even be willing to get out and pound the pavment and recruit for you business. Usually to some degree the company will help you with this, but the benefit for the company is they are using your advertising dollars to grow and you are able to build a biz.

Now for the "must" part, Cannot stress this enough,I know this is gonna sound strange but "work on your head", meaning feed your mind with positive, books CDs , motivational speakers,being carefull to not use negative words and thought prossess. Also it's good to exercise empathy and the art of internalizing what people say to you, it helps you better understand them and also they in turn will look to you as someone who has their best intrest at heart.

We have the greatest country on this planet ,but unfortunitly this country for the last hundred years has been only concearned with churning out "employees".Job security, pensions,and benifets is the new language of the broke. We have created a comfort zone of get up ,go to work and pay bills.This is the main reason people give up when they don't succeed in an industry like this . In my business we have a saying,'ROYLO". This stands for Rest of your life off". as is the name I use for Yahoo Answers.We also call it the burn, meaning that you go gang busters,ape crap nuts and give it a short intense burn and take 2-3 years to build your business and you will be able to take the rest of your life off, It's like getting a plane off the ground and it takes a lot to do that but once it's in the air all it takes is guiding it.

A couple last things, This is very intresting and somthing I discovered a while back,there is one very simple and overlooked factor that stands between someone obtaining wealth or obtaining governmental assistance at retirement and that is giving yourself permision.So many people say "I'm stuck at this job and I have responsibilities and have to make the best of it." Give your self permision to transition out of a job if that is the case and give your self permision to win for you and your family.It is not writen on any ones birth certificate what they are "supposed" to be doing in life. Also if you go at this like an employee you will get employee results. If you go at it as a business builder you will reap the rewards. See you at the top!!

You must know how to sell yourself, before you can sell your product. Make checklist, clean shave, smartly dressed, fingernails clean etc. Meeting : stand straight, make eye contact, smile, shake hand, warm but not to tough, introduce yourself, listen well to remember your clients name, ask when you did not hear it clearly, mention the business that you want to talk about, but immediately start some chitchat, try to get personal in a non invasive manner. When people like you as a person, than they are probably willing to buy your product, even when it is more expensive than the competitor.

Easy question... If you are intimidated by, or dislike the marketing/cold-calling/soliciting aspect of your job, it is not likely you will do well... To sell anything, you have to have a person to sell to first.
