i am on a anti-depressant and I'm 39 weeks pregnant and i was on them with my first one. if you are depressed you need to be on your melds. my Dr told me that it would make things worse if you aren't on them. they have levels on melds when you are pregnant,A's,B's,C's,D's and X's. the safe ones are a b and c . the depressant that i am on is a level c. you need to talk to your Dr. my Dr told me with this one it would be safe and I'm planning on breastfeeding this one and they say not to do it if you are p0lanning on breastfeeding but i asked my Dr about it and she said that it would only make the baby sleepy and nothing else, same thing with my first. talk to your Dr that's what he/she is here for. there are some you can take and some you CAN NOT take. like i said talk to your Dr.

I am 9 1/2 weeks pregnant and was recently on Zoloft. I have had 2 previous miscarriages. My Psychiatrist told me that he didn't want to take a chance being on an anti depressant during pregnancy. He as lo stated that when you are pregnant that your hormones are on a rise. And that you don't need to be on an anti-depressant while pregnant. Almost like nature takes its course. However he did say that as soon as the birth of the baby I needed to be put back on, for the fear postpartum depression. However, considering your situation I would definitely talk to your doctor. There isn't any scientific proof that Zoloft can cause harm to the baby, however they thought the same thing about Prozac and paxil and it has recently come out that it can affect a pregnancy. Talk to your OB and then see a psychiatrist about medication.. You could also try counseling???

I was told that taking Zoloft after 14 weeks was okay, however because there is little research to support this, I decided to avoid taking anything during pregnancy. I'm really not sure of the pros and cons of taking anti-depressants during pregnancy, mainly because I don't see the point of taking anti-depressants in the first place. I was prescribed Zoloft due to depression, but they really didn't to squat for me. Really you need to discuss it with a doctor and figure out what you want to do from there.

Yes, certain ones are okay to take during pregnancy. I didn't think it was okay to take them, so I stopped taking Welbutrin immediately after finding out I was pregnant, without consulting with a doctor. I tried to do without taking them, but I just couldn't function. At my first visit, I consulted with him about it, and he suggested putting me back on an anti-depressant, but not necessarily wellbutrin, but prozac. Each anti-depressant fits in a different category...A,B,C,D, etc. An A category is the best, meaning that there has been no known side effects to the baby and has been safe to take. Wellbutrin fit into the B category though meaning the don't quite know if it does anything or not. If you're already on anti-depressants, I would stay on them, DO NOT quit taking them on your own, and talk to your ob-gyn about it and he/she'll decide what to do.

There are some that are safe to take. You need to speak with your doctor about which ones to take, and at what time during your pregnancy.

Do NOT stop taking your medication without talking to your doctor if you are on anti depressents. It can be very dangerous for you and the baby.

I don't know what the pros and cons are, but I do know that some are safe and others aren't, especially in the first trimester.
You should talk to your doctor.

i took anti d's before ifell preg the first time and stopped immediantly. what happened then was that i crashed and started to get chronic anxiety back. i was put on zoloft which is given the ok from the doc. i bounced back to normal health and baby and i are great. always talk to ure doc, but do not let symptoms get out of hand as can lead to post partum depression. a baby needs a happy mummy, the need outweighs the risk in a lot of cases.

I know with me I had to take them. My doctor prescribed Paxil. It was safe. The only side effect my doctor told me about is that the baby can have difficulties breathing right after birth. My kids didn't have any problems with that though. I am currently 12 weeks pregnant with my 4th and I am taking antidepressants. My doctor says it is just as important to keep mom healthy as it is to have a healthy baby. Make sure you talk with your doctor though. And DO NOT STOP TAKING THEM ON YOUR OWN!!!!!!! Good luck

Anything you take the baby takes. Any chemical your body takes in so does the baby's body. Your system functions well at expelling those toxins... babies dont have those functional systems right away.

Typically your doctor can perscibe antidepressants during pregnancy that have little if any risk.

I personally couldnt take them.

Sun light, good diet, and interacting with people helps quite well at naturally changing your chemicals and hormones.

If you have a drug guide book you can check its adverse effect and if its safe for the baby. I don't know if it will tell if it safe or not for those pregnant women.

Check your local library if they have that book.

To be safe go to your family doctor.
