I can tell you that we people from Illinois get very annoyed by people pronouncing the s.

You shouldn't pronounce the 's' in Illinois. Even if you come across a dictionary that may say it's okay. The silent 's' is by far the accepted pronunciation.

Just as an experiment you could try pronouncing the 's' in Illinois when speaking with people and count how many strange looks you get. . . . . . or how many people correct you ;-)

It depends are where you are from I think.....according to the dictionary it is pronounced both ways
