Do something creative. Like go purchase some water color paints and paper at an art store and just go for it - put anything down on the paper you choose and feel good about what ever it is you create. If you play a musical instrument, pick it up and make some sound. If you are into physical activity, go work out at the gym, sign up to play racket ball with someone else who is a "single" player and have some fun. Go to one of those big book stores that has coffee and scones, browse a section of the store that has books that interest you - buy something decadant like the double chocolate cake and a large, steaming cup of your favorite beverage, sit in one of the big, over stuffed chairs and relax and read the book of your choice - for free! Write a poem. Go to inspirationpeak.com or poetry.com and read poetry there.
Write a list of all the things that are GOOD in your life. Think hard, then come up with a One Month Goal, a One Year Goal and a Five Year Goal. Then, initiate some very basic actions that will help you achieve the goals. So, if a five year goal included getting some sort of continued education, go on line and begin researching what it will take to achieve that goal. You don't have to do anything but contemplate the things that you need to achieve your ultimate happiness. Envision yourself achieving those goals, and do something constructive (even if it is only doing some research on the internet) towards meeting those goals. Contemplate what it will feel like to achieve the desired result.... it will make you feel happy.
Any negative thoughts that come to your mind must be whisked away - just tell youself, "no negative thoughts today" and move on to the positive.
That should help.

smile and that is what I mean, because I read once that even the smallest smile can trigger this certain chemical in our brain. May I please not that you said you have no friends with any spare time at the moment. A moment is a very short expanse of time. Much shorter than a minute, half hour, hour, day, week, month and a year. Glad to read that you don't want to get drunk that won't help just numb what is already there. Allow me to say now is the time to get into you and I hope that doesn't sound cheesy.

I would sign up for the gym or some dance classes... If you don't like to exercise try some good books or movies at home. Or.. you can sit at yahoo answers from time to time and help some people out! Cheers and Big Smile!

Stay at home, put the radio on very loud and dance all around the house. You might get a little exercise too, not that i think you're fat or anything.
