Hello there,

I need some advice as I am going to be buying a new laptop.

I will use my laptop for the following things:
- Browsing the web
- Word processing
- Music
- Chatting (i.e. Skype, IM)
- Web/Graphic design (which means Photoshop, Dreamweaver, FTP client and many other misc. windows open at the same time - possibly Premiere for movies as well. - possibly Visual Studio 2005 Pro for programming as well.)
- Playing the occasional (non-superhighspec) game.

Do you have any suggestions or tips for me for when I choose my laptop or any recommendations for which one would be best suited for my needs? All comments are greatly appreciated.

A friend recommended this one ( http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=115793&ebid=1268 ), but I haven't made up my mind yet.

Little sidenote: No Dell, or overly-expensive laptops (e.g. Alienware). Pref widescreen. Pref upgradable (RAM, especially). Pref under £600

Thank you very much

from what you describe it sounds like you need an apple, they're better for the creative arts like photography, music and graphic design. I wouldnt touch dell with the 10ft barge pole.

Here are the simply spec for u
A duo for fast working pc then a 1gb RAM for programing. and then lots of HDD for all the things u save. Keep this in mind Windows Vista is going to release in 2 months I would wait until then.

If you are using the lap top for those things then almost any lap top would do. I think hp is pretty good and dell is prob. too. But, the best think to do is buy the warranty or just return it if you don't like it. That way if it crashes you aren't stuck with the bill.

try www.laptopsdirect.co.uk

Very good, and just go for an entry level Acer or something.
