My own analogy is is this:everything that happens has a reason,a purpose.Everyone we meet,everything we experience is meant to impart or share with us a lesson.No such thing as coincidences.We are all just pieces of that giant jigsaw puzzle we call LIFE.
(i base this on Bruce Lee's philosophy in creating his own martial art-Jeet Kune Do:he was OPEN to all forms of martial arts BUT-he only absorbed and studied the practical,most effective ones and did away with the other dancelike,repetitive katas.He took the best from each martial art that he studied,including fencing,Filipino stick fighting,etc as pieces of his own PUZZLE and combined them together to create his hybrid martial art-fast,effective,nothing fancy,so practical you can use it as a self defensive skill)
as for your box of chocolates,think of it this way:you don't always like EVERYTHING inside that box,others you keep yourself(or hide from your love ones,LOL),others you give away(to your love ones,lol) or use as projectiles for your slingshot.The good ones are your happy memories in life,the bad ones-your sad memories which you don't want to hang on to.

You neglected 2: existence, AND WHY? God made you because He loves you. you've any such ingredient stated as 'purpose', it rather is why you're unique, easily one of a kind. That makes you 'particular', particular now to not me, who cares about me, yet particular to the guy who created you--God.
