Great Britain is a group of previously independent nations bound together by the forces of imperialism. The British, along with the French and other European peoples, wrote the book on imperialism and colonization; so lets not call the kettle black, okay. Perhaps the British government knows how to back the right horse.

However, I'd be careful about getting too close to the current American government ... period. And I'm an American. It just seems to me that the present administration is less concerned with making the wisest decisions than it is concerned with making its presence known.

Perhaps yahoo q&a is being used by muslim propaganda field agents to provide a forum for divide and conquer techniques.
The same propaganda was used by the germans , leafletting our soldiers on the front line , telling them american soldiers were having a good time with their wives.
The japs did it with india, asking them why they were allied to the british who dominated them.
Well my answer here is, america is the western flagship of democracy that has supplied information , finance and weapons to britain for the last 60 years.
It is our ally, our friend, and although its hard to swallow , they are obviously the senior partner. We have sheltered under the american nuclear umbrella for thwe duration of the cold war and now there are new threats that usa is more economically and militarily suited to handling.
So lets choose, shall we be freindly with usa or ...say...france?

The only reason I can think of that makes any sense is that the US intelligence services had enough dirt on them to force them to, except for Mrs Thatcher, of course. She went along because she was of the same ilk.
