If you go back and review the begining of these parties you can see the differences.
Republicans tend to be more concerned about religion and commerce.
Democrats are more concerned about civil liberties and human rights.
The other parties dont fail to attract more voters, theyres simply variations of either rep. or dem. parties. Thats why theyre absorbed by them, and supported by them.
Its simply just two school of thoughts. much like there are tw school of thoughts in any other aspect of life.

Its just a matter of opinions--
and money. Typically, republicans lean towards the richer side and are more conservative.
Democrats, on the other hand, are typically more liberal and living on a smaller general paycheck.
Other parties simply are too off the beaten path for most americans-- and they lack the funding to really have a voice.
However, if you go online, usually there is information on parties like the green party.
Sometimes, these parties have the most helpful plans because they do not have as much corruption and are just running to get their ideas out, knowing that they will probably not win just because of the label they have. Not to say that republicans and democrats dont have good ideas, but, you can already see the corruption coming into the presidential election, and its 2 years away!!!!

The Democrats have always been for the working class and the underpriveledged of America, and the Republicans have always been for big business, corporations, and the filthy rich.
Whenever the Republicans are in office there is either a Great Depression or war, and it always takes a Democrat to pull America out of those Great Depressions and wars. There's not enough Americans that believe in the platforms of the fringe parties for them to make any difference.

Democrats have a more scientifically based view of the world. They begin with collecting data and observations, then build conclusions, while the Republicans begin with whatever philosophy they want and if they can find some facts, or invent some fake ones, to justify their position, they do. Democrats understand that the economy is an integrated system, so if the system is healthy all the members of the system benefit, while Republicans take campaign contributions from specific businesses like the oil industry, or the insecticide business, or the drug industry, and then let them write the laws that govern them. Thus, the $500 billion giveaway to the drug industry, tax payer funded subsidies for the oil industry despite its record profits and high prices, and lax environmental regulations for the poison industry that lead to sickness for countless millions of citizens. And Republicans love to hate, it is their prime motivation as I am sure their responses to your question will demonstrate.

Democrats are better than republicans. Democrats are more focused towards helping the people, like in the 2004 election, John Kerry wanted to end the war, and use that money to start a federal health insurance to those who can't afford it.
Republicans are more focused towards being a world cop. They deal with foreign matters, and are notorius for going to war. They are not at all focused on the public, and could care less.

Democrats- They will generally tax higher, but will offer more health care options, education, and help poorer communities. They will try to avoid wars but might be diplomatic to countries they don't support. They are generally friendlier to the environment but that might resolve in a little bit worse economics, though in Bush's case it was still bad. Republicans- They are more capitalistic and conservative. If you are doing well economically then they are a better choice, and they tax lower but the benefits mention above are excluded and they are faster to start a war. Being conservative they are against abortions and rights for homosexuals to get married. They also believe sex shouldn't be taught at school.

if you wanna get caught up in all the girl talk about politics and i use the term politics loosely, republicans want to conserve and that means mostly their own money, and the democrats want to give out more money to you so later down the line they can take it from you. but in reality there is no difference because they are puppet organizations looking for the best way of ruining your life.
