Open mycomputer and click view system information click hardware click device manager look for mice and dbl click to expand then find the "Touchpad" then right click and update the driver also click properties and use troubleshoot.
You may have damaged the touchpad by tapping too hard but try all that and I hope it works for you. If not buy a mouse and plug it in the back or get a small wireless mouse. I have one and find it to be useful when I want to sit back and browse.

Does your computer still have the warranty? You could contact the company. THis may be something they can fix for free. You could contact Office Max or any computer store like that. They have people that know all about computers. They may be able to give suggestions. If those don't work, then maybe you'll have to take it to a place to be fixed. I know best buy has their geek squad.

You could always get a mouse to use too! Good luck. That has gotta suck.

Your mouse pad might be broken. If you have a plug-in mouse, try to plug it in and see if it works. If you either don't have a plug-in mouse or the mouse doesn't work, take it to a computer store, like "Geek Squad", which is located in you nearest "Best Buy". I hope you can figure out everything!

That has happened to me before, there may be some dust or something inside that got stuck, take it to a repair shop or even better if you can there is always the compressed air in a can you can get to clean it out. Hope this helps.
