I'm in Germany at the moment and the parking brake will not pass inspection. When the parking brake is engaged, the truck will not go forward, but when you gas in reverse it will move and make a sqeeky sound. I know that there is an emergency brake shoe seperate from the disc brake? But why is the parking brake working in one direction but not in the other. I plan to replace the brake shoe, but i'm not sure if this is the correct thing to do. I have tightened the e-brake cable. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank-you!

Your brakes are just out of adjustment or worn badly. There is NOT a separate pad or shoe for the parking brake on ANY vehicle. They only use the rear shoe when you have drum brakes on the rear. Some vehicles that have disc on rear use a racheting parking brake pedal to work properly. I know Buick used these in the '90's. A little simple maintenance will fix your problem. Don't let some jack leg tell you he's replacing a "special" component because he's lying and trying to rip you off.

there aren't seperate brake shoes for the emergency brake. it uses the rear brake pads or shoes, depending on what u have. u need to pull the tires and drums and take a look, the cable might be off one side, and make sure the pads or shoes are in good shape and not worn down. most of the chevys ive had, had a little access hole in the back , usually plugged with a rubber cap toward the bottom, this is to set the rear brakes and make them tighter. this automatically happens every time u back up and stop, but something might be off inside. i do all my own brake work, its worth learning and buying a few specialty tools to help with the job. i hope this helps u out!! good luck.
