They are both recent movies that Alan Rickman was in and I've never heard of them before. What are they about? Somewhere else I found out Perfume was a book. Who is the author of this so I can aquire it?

I saw Perfume at a recent preview screening. I didn't really like it that much, but not for any particular reason. Just not my sorta film. It's about this guy who tries to recreate the 'scent' of virginity in women. He goes about killing them. I won't spoil anything for those who do want to go see it. The book is by Patrick Suskind

Patrick Suskind wrote Perfume. It's been on my "to be read" list for quite sometime. I don't want to give the synopsis away because it's such an original, odd, plot I don't want to ruin it for anyone. I didn't know Alan Rickman was in the movie, though! Definitely a must see now!

You have got to read Patrick Suskind's Perfume. It was written originally in German and it made it to BBC's Big Read Top 100 Most Popular Books of All Time.
Very very dark.
