My 4 1/2 month old is teething, we can see the white just under the gums, and he hates it.. He's not really a cryer, or screamer but the past couple of days he's thrown some fierce crying fits.. and it just breaks my heart. Any tips on calming him, we've tried to give him something cold to chew on but he doesn't really like it, he just seems to hurt so bad that nothing helps, we gave him some infant tylenol.. What else can we do??

Anbesol and infant Motrin....this is a combo that works best!

Have you tried giving him a rubbery teething ring? The rubberiness (?) will help too. Also Anbesol or Orajel are obvious alternatives to the tylenol (baby formulas of course). When my niece was teething we bought her a rubber gum brush and that really helped a lot. You just run it along the gums and it's like a massage I'd imagine (don't know for sure 'cause I never tried it myself). Good luck. (poor guy)

You can do two things:
-give him something cool to chew instead of something cold. That will numb it without giving that painful feeling

-You can also try taking a drop of rum and rubbing it on the gums; just a drop, don't intoxicate your baby. That will numb the pain.( Just so you know where this came from, people use this in the caribbean and it works extremey well)
God bless

Mine would never take the teething rings either, and I hated Orajel - it never lasted. I used tylenol only rarely, not wanting him to have too much. What worked for me was the Munchkin Fresh Food Feeder. Little nets that snap shut. You can put ice, frozen fruit, anything really, and let baby chew to numb his sore gums. My son especially loved it when I put frozen berries in his. I used to also freeze his baby food in an ice cube tray and add that to the Munckin Feeder. You can buy them at places like Walmart, and Amazon for a few dollars.

Try giving him a rag or blanket (not cold) to chew on or even a clean finger. Baby orajel works well too. It will numb his gums for a while. Keep giving tylenol as well. hope that helps.

Try Hylands teething tablets & anbesol/oragel. If he'll let you, give him a cold wash cloth to chew on - - it's a lot easier on the gums than store bought teething toys

Baby orajel works great and if that does not work ...go to wal-mart and look for something called teething tablets. These worked for my son when nothing else would. A warm sugar water bottle also seemed to help. If all else fails remember that being held will always soothe your baby. This is a tough time and Good Luck to you.

Try wetting a few wash cloths and putting them into the freezer. Let them freeze up, then give 1 to your son at a time. Once they've thawed out, give him another 1 if he needs it. I used that with my son when he was teething and it worked a lot better than Oragel or teething rings.

baby oragel, they might not like it at first, but they will enjoy it when they don't feel the pain of teething anymore, or atleast for awhile. Wrap the child up tight and give him baby oragel, rock him to make him think of something else while the medicine is taking affect. Your baby will have gas problems, and might get a headache or fever. I would let the baby eat what he wants, and sleep when he wants, because they can get really moody!

Well, youve done the cold chewy thing and Tylenol. Orajel!!!!!!. Also, We just use to let our son chew on our fingers (clean of course). I would massage his gums with my finger AND with a baby toothbrush, and one you put on your finger. Like, I didn't feel comfortable with the idea of what my sis went through when she was a baby, her dad put whiskey on her gums! EWW!
Try toothbrush, and massage.....my son was colicy anyway, but that seemed to help him tons!

Baby Oralgel Works wonders. If not try rubing the sides of his gums.
