Steps:

1. Change 20% to a decimal by moving the decimal point two places to the left.

Doing this we get: 0.2

2. Multiply 0.2 by $640.00

Doing this we get: $128.

What does this mean?

For example, if an item costs $640.00 and the store has a 20% deduction on such an item, then you would only pay $640.00 minus $128.00 for that item.

Got it?

First convert 20% to decimal

Divide 20 by 100 and remove the % sign

20 / 100 = .0.2

Multiply 640 times the decimal

640 x 0.2 = 128

The answer is 20% off from $ 640.00 is $ 128.00

finding percentages are easy. all you have to do is take the percentage given, and make it into a decimal by moving hte decimal place over to the right 2 places.

so, saying that.
1) $640.00 x 20%
2)change 20% into .02 (moving the decimal point over 2 spaces)
3) $640.00 x .02= $128
4) $128 dollars is the answer

To subtract off 20%, 1/5 of 640 = 128
640 - 128 = $512

Or you can multiply 640 x .80 (80%)
(keeping .80 of your original number
is the same as subtracting off .20)

640 x .8 = $512

For percentages that are multiples of 10, I find it easier to find 10% first and then multiply that answer.
Since 10% just involves moving the decimal place, it's very easy to find.
So in this case, 10% is $64. 64 times 2 is 128.

I recently learned this in school.

1. Change the percent to a decimal (0.20)

2. Multiply 640.00 by 0.20

Then you will get your answer (a.k.a 128.00)

Tada!
