The war was proclaimed won. Saddam was caught and sentenced. Their civil war is on. Our troops are still dying. Al Queda is everywhere in the world. So at which point does the democracy in Iraq start that ends the deaths of our troops?

I'm not talking about cutting out but just recognizing what is happening and doing something different.

I am a Viet Nam vet and do understand the costs of failed political policy and the cost to the families here at home.

It is not worth it, nor was it ever worth it. We call this the "War on Terror", yet we have yet to go after those responsible for 9/11. All these lives lost, families ruined, money spent and we haven't accomplished a dang thing.

Not a silly question as stated above. 9-11 will never be forgotten. The answer above goes on to state how you would like it to be French and the problem with Muslims. The U.S. has a much larger Muslim population and doesn't have those problems. As far as was or is it worth it? Only the future will tell as it has in Viet Nam. I suggest those that wish to continue this eye for an eye policy at least visit the military hospitals or send their condolences to the families of those that came home in body bags. Not just cut you down here.

It's not worth it now - it was never worth it. What have we accomplished over there? Absolutely nothing! American troops have died so George Bush can say he's a nation-builder spreading democracy around the world and all it takes is one look at the nightly news and you can see how well that's going. At this point, it seems to be all about Bush's pride and to pull the troops out would be to admit defeat and he can't have that. How many more people have to die to feed Bush's ego?

Yet another silly question by someone who obviously has little if any ability at critical thought...

2300 deaths doesn't even equal the number of deaths of US citizens in one hour on 9-11...

So what do you want to do, take up dhimmitude so the the terrorist towel heads, "might" leave you alone?

dhimmitude = Dhimmitude is the status that Islamic law, the Sharia, mandates for non-Muslims, primarily Jews and Christians. Dhimmis, "protected people," are free to practice their religion in a Sharia regime, but are made subject to a number of humiliating regulations designed to enforce the Qur'an's command that they "feel themselves subdued" (Sura 9:29).

The funny thing is, if we walk away and the the terrorist towel heads really make some headway the leftists the world over will lose the most...

Do you want whatever country you live in to be like France?

From Daniel Pipes:

The 751 No-Go Zones of France
November 14, 2006

They go by the euphemistic term Zones Urbaines Sensibles, or Sensitive Urban Zones, with the even more antiseptic acronym ZUS, and there are 751 of them as of last count. They are convienently listed on one long webpage, complete with street demarcations and map delineations.

What are they? Those places in France that the French state does not control. They range from two zones in the medieval town of Carcassone to twelve in the heavily Muslim town of Marseilles, with hardly a town in France lacking in its ZUS. The ZUS came into existence in late 1996 and according to a 2004 estimate, nearly 5 million people live in them.

Comment: A more precise name for these zones would be Dar al-Islam, the place where Muslims rule.

If it is going to have a bad ending whenever we end it, why not end it now and save some lives and the two billion dollar$ a week it co$t$ to fight it? I do believe some wars are worth it, WW2 for example. Vietnam could have been totally avoided if people had seen what was coming in, say, 1952 or '53, but this thing was deliberately started. People who like the war should go fight it. For some reason, they always have convenient excuses for not doing so. Funny.

Who proclaimed the win of the war?I havent heard this.Yes Sadam was caught and sentence and you need to listen to your words..,Al Queda is EVERYWHERE and their main goal is to kill all non believers..,so when you are faced with a machede at your throat insisting you to proclaim Islam since you dont want to fight them..,will you remember asking yourself, was it worth it?Have you lead a sheltered life and not know that when there is a war going on there are deaths?See, it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure that out.

To answer your question, we'd have to consider what would happen if we simply pulled out.

It's pretty clear that there are multiple factions within Iraq, plus there's Iran and Syria to consider. They all hate each other more than they hate the US, they only hate us when we get in the way of them killing people in the other gangs. It's not a civil war. It's a gang war. Civil wars don't have five sides.

If we pull out, the slaughter that follows will make Darfur look like a post-soccer match riot, and make Slobodan Milosivich look like a rank amateur.

Yes it's worth it. Because if we pull out, either Osama's goon Abu Ayyub(Hamza) al-Masri will take over, or Iran's goon Moqtada al-Sadr will take over and Iraq will return to a sponsor of terror either way. And if you ARE a Vietnam Vet, as you claim, then you should know better than anybody that pulling out gave red armies throughout the world permission to kill whoever they damn-well pleased, as long as they told everyone(including themselves) their cause was a "people's struggle."

Over 3000 Americans were killed in one morning on 9-11. If Clinton had done something prior to this instead of ignoring the volatile situations in the middle east, we may not have had to go to war. Don't forget 9-11 so easily.

I will be one of the first to say that our plan for Iraq (assuming there was one) was flawed. We can place the blame later, right now we need to start moving forward to end this in the correct manner. Not cut and run and worry about dealing with whomever fills the vacuum of power (Iran) later, but draw together a realistic plan, follow it, and get out. Whatever that takes.
