Abdominal pain can be caused by many things, from diet generating gases to appendicitis, to torsion of the bowel to kidney problems. Without any diagnostic work, it is impossible to even guess the cause. The blood test may have been only for a blood cell count to rule out appendicitis but would not show othe clinical conditions. Here in this site, you will find no one who is able to offer sound advice, as we have to see the patient to evaluate the pain distribution, tenderness, rigidity, etc. From your brief description, you say he has lost weight so I must assume that the condition has persisted for some time...isn't it time to find out the cause? I suggest either another GP or better a gastroenterologist for a diagnostic evaluation. Delaying will further complicate matters. Without specifics, one can not rule out malignancies, but with treatment or surgery, the patient can have a normal life span. But you need to be specific for some to help you, you didn't mention any prior abdominal surgery (the cause of possible adhesions) color of urine, etc. etc. You do need to refer to someone who can see the patient, not waste time here.

The weight loss is a bit alarming. Usually,there isn't a weight loss with appendicitis. He may have a bowel problem, or a very slow acting appendicitis. Anyway around it, your husband needs way more than a blood test. Your doc should be ordering an ultrasound, and possible MRI to truly check what the dynamics of that pain actually is. If he ordered the test just today, most likely he will be immediately be informed by the pathologist that there is a high volume of white cells signalling an infection, IF, there is an infection. That would definitely precipitate immediate imaging to find out what is wrong. Don't delay. It may be nothing, but it can be dangerous if not treated or looked into quickly.

This can be various causes depends on age, life style. also what kind of pain is it unbearable or a uncomfortable pain?
try to rule out possibilities for example:
1. does your husband drink alcohol - possible symptoms of liver problems and would explain loss of weight.
2. Has he strain himself lately, depending on age any sudden jerk or lifting heavy objects can cause uncomfortable pain to unbearable pain- if this the case then rest and relaxation recommended.
3. Diet- depend on age if older say over 35 include lots of fiber in diet. Men tend to suffer constipation at this age.

Best rule visit your Doctor and do a thorough examination.

As previous answer said it could be the appendix but usually you dont get pain in the hip with that. I would go back to the doctor and ask to be referred for a second opinion....;

i agree with the above
if his blood tests show marked increase in WBCs it might be appendicitis
