My friends keep getting there myspace's hacked.

I was wondering how someone does this.

The person (or persons) doesnt know them. But they somehow manage to figure out their password.

How is this possible?!

Is there any way to prevent it?

it's usually done through bulletins that get passed along. the bulletins will say something like "check out these awesome ringtones" or "check out this really hot guy/girl"..and then when you click on the bulletin it will open a web page that looks like the myspace log in page. most people just think it was a myspace glitch and they were kicked out. what they don't know is that that log in page was created by the hacker. once they put in their information and hit log in, the program captures their information and stores it for the hacker to access it. it's known as spoofing or phishing. once they have that person's information they can log into that account now and repost that bulletin and pass it along. then someone else will click on the bulletin, they get the next person's info, log in and pass it on again. and it keeps going and going.

they way to prevent it is to periodically change your password. make it something completely different and off the wall. don't click on any odd looking bulletins. after awhile you start to know the people you talk to and you know what they post. if you have a friend that never posts, or only posts surveys and all of the sudden they start posting uncharacteristic things, chances are their password was stolen. don't click on the bulletin for anything. whenever you log in myspace make sure it says login.myspace.com. and whenever you're done with myspace, close the browser out.

make sure you use different characters in your password if allowed like:
pass_212$hac (Yahoo didn't let me post the password example)

that would be a stronger password than
doggie

There are methods hackers can use to break into your myspace by using password dictionaries and other pre-built programs. These people that do things like this are kids. They have nothing better to do than break into a free account.
