A team can not play with fewer than 7 players. If a team is down to seven and a player is injured, play is stopped to see if that player can return, if he can not, then the match is abandoned. The number of red cards has nothing to do with it. Players can be injured and if you use all your substitutions, you would still play short.

Each team must have at least 7 players on the pitch. Once any team goes down to 6, the game has to be called off. That means 8 players can be sent off before the game is abandoned.

According to a website I have found, if a team is reduced to less than 7 players then the game is abandoned.

Ther is no fixed rule, but FIFA recommends no less than 7 players on the field per team. Which means a maximum of 4 red cards.
Strangely, I once got 4 red cards in a match in Championship Manager, but the match still continued. I lost all my defenders and the other team (Blackburn) scored 2 late goals to win. Really stupid.
