Why don't you just get a companion for the rat. They really need companions in same sex groups. A lone rat is an unhappy rat. Hamsters dont need much companionship though.
If you put the rat in with the hamster, it will kill it.
So I recomend getting another rat (same gender) and it will be much happier than being alone.

no, please don't try it. Hamsters are solitary creatures by nature and will fight even with other hamsters. Rats do prefer company, but of the rat sort. I would also be very concerned about the size difference. A rat could easily kill a hamster if provoked. If you want your rat and hamster to interact, you need to make sure they are out of their cages so they won't be territorial and that you are supervising them at all times.

a lot of the time a hamster and a hamster cant live in the same cage. so id say separate them to be on the safe side and have little play dates now and then for a short amount of time. that will make sure they dont get sick of each other, and that they will get used to each other , too.

perhaps you may get 2 women human beings? they are greater playful and outgoing! men can get alongside effective mutually. get them from the comparable clutter or cage so they are already familiar with a minimum of one yet another. there is often the possibility male or woman that they won't get alongside. in basic terms like human beings they have likes and dislikes. try 2 %. 2 men that are snuggling or interacting with one yet another. i'm happy you chosen to get a pair as rats are enormously sociable creatures and choose the companionship of their very own species for solid wellness! Congrats and solid success!

I can't imagine! Rat is a carnivore and a hunter, even when domesticated. It sounds like putting together a domesticated tiger (cat) with a zebra - it will not work either.

Afraid not. Hamsters are un social animals loners. Rats are much larger more curious animals and some times become greedy especially with food. Almost garenteed fights that could become deadly. This is deffinatly not advised.

I would say...NO! First of all there different species. Second hamsters are not pack animals and rats are. Third rats are way larger then hamsters. And last Rats are carnivores and would probably kill the little hammy!

It is difficult, even more so if both are males. Check out the temperament before keeping them together. By the way the scent of rats urine might evoke consternation in the hamster.

Yes, but with supervision, don't leave them in there together when you're not watching. There may be some fighting, help them bond with each other. Put them together at first, in a neutral environment. Watch them for a while. If they don't fight, that's good! If they fight, seperate them immediately and try again! Good luck!!! and remember, only put them together when you're watching!!!!
