i believe that the crane fold is artistic, formal and abstract. i feel that it is a way of expressing harmony in life.

Paper cranes symbolize peace. They are a part of origami art, originating in Japan. That country of course was horribly decimated in WW2.

I always associate it with the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I'm almost positive it is an important aspect of their remembrance ceremonies.
