Odd that the very first to respond was the biggest closet case of them all!
Some are truly curious and want to learn, some have family members or friends that are gay, some are questioning, but the majority that are here asking the provocative questions or insulting gays are troubled and damaged people.
No normal heterosexual spends hours on here, lurking, in the shadows. They are closet cases or deeply disturbed.
People who have made a mess of their life, seek comfort by trying to inflict pain on others, so they drag their sad emotionally wrecked self here and try to act superior. But they make themselves look even more sad and pathetic. They realize that at this too they have failed, so they keep lashing out.
Most normal straight people don't get that worked up about gays, they might not like us, but they don't spend this much energy to let the world know. Its only those who have made a mess of their lives.
EDIT: The first responder was deleted, ***********, We ALL KNOW "Ron N" is gay as a three dollar bill and we are mighty proud to call him one of US!

I am a Christian who has many friends who are homosexuals and while I am somewhat skeptical of the "Homosexual Gene", I do not like it when others who profess to be Christians attack anyone. I find it hard to rationalize that kind of behavior with one who follows Christ. Yes it says homosexuality is an abomination, both in the OT and NT but it says so much more about loving the sinner, not the sin and making sure you weed your own garden before you set out to landscape your neighbors yard. I am basically here trying to show tolerance in a world full of intolerance in hopes that people will begin to read a little bit more of what they profess to follow and that some of the stereotypes of Christians will be wiped clean. Not all of us are bigots and finger pointers.

The whole point of Yahoo Aswers is for people to provide information and advice to other people's questions. Just be cause I'm straight doesn't mean that my answers or advice aren't going do be helpful, and just because someone is bisexual or gay does't mean that they know what their talking about. Reading through these questions doesn't mean someone's is closeted, they might just be trying to rack up some points. I only answer questions where I think my answer or advice will help.
In all honesty, I'm mainly answering this question to express my opinion and scrap up another 2 points. =P

Puffy hit the nail on the head, with the comment about the first answer. It goes to show how this section attracts many closeted, self-loathing types. Many of the others who are disrespectful suffer from the same type of internalized homophobia -- fear and lack of self-respect, due to being in the closet for too long.

curious but also tolerant. i mean, just because there is a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered section on here, doesn't just mean its only for people who are gay, lesbain, bisexual and transgendered. although there are also the odd nasty and bigoted and hateful answers being posted about gay people, especially on this section. i mean, there are sections on women's studies, and yet there are men, in addition to women posting and answering questions. besides, i think it would be unfair for someone to not be allowed to answer a question on the LGBT, because they are not gay/lesbian themselves. and anyway, most straight people have gay and lesbian friends, or in my case, have met a gay/lesbian/transgendered person during some point in their lives. and on the cultures and groups section, it isn't neccessarily intended for all non-whites, straight people, men etc. i answer a few questions on the LGBT section myself on a few occasions and i am straight, so it doesn't really make a difference whatsoever

Good question, there are some people here that are decent, but the others are full of hate and bitterness. I think the hate comes from their closeted feelings. Their hate and anger are the only defense they have. :)
