No, you are not alone - nor are you old fashioned. I dislike it intensely, too. I appreciate that 'text slang' is acceptable in text messaging because of space limitations, etc., but this method of written communication is becoming so prevalent that at least one examination board is proposing to accept it when answering exam questions. (Let's hope not English Language.) W S Shakespeare and G B Shaw must be spinning in their celestial study rooms!

Your not the only one who dislikes the butchering of the English language. I get annoyed when I see the abbreviations.

well there is a difference between using the common lol since its not distorting any of the spelling is just an abbreviation but i do myself hate the using things such as lky for like or thru for through but believe it or spelling is a big issue to people these days

No you are correct. It promotes a slow decline in the English language, some young people cannot spell any other way. We even have children being taught to spell phonetically.

If you are, then you are not the only one. If a questions is to full of those "cute" little shortcuts, I usually ignore them.

While I can forgive the occasional type or spelling error, the over use of abbrivations that a lot of people do not understand makes the reading of questions and answers impossible sometimes.

I understand why they are doing it but I don't like it since it is inhibiting their grasp of the English language and proper use and spelling of it.

no I agree with you my sons use it all the time and as a result have forgotten how to spell, i think it is a pity the beauty of the written language is been destroyed in this way.

hmm, No I am extremely annoyed by it. I wonder why people can't take the time to just type out the whole word. its not wasting anytime....because if it was then they shouldn't be on the computer in the first place.

I'm just learning some of these short terms, it took me quite some time to learn this, though I still prefer the long terms

As far as I am concerned it takes longer to think about it while you`re typing and certainly longer to decipher. Let`s hope it is just a fad and it will fade away!
