I have found that caged mammals take a lot of care (guinea pigs etc.). I live in an apartment and my dog needs to be walked 4 times a day so that is quite a bit of care but I really enjoy it. I am wondering if there are animals that you can keep that don't really need a lot of care.

Fish and cats. Cats are very independant all you have to do is feed and water them. They will nudge you for attention and you just pet them then they are on their way. Fish swim in a tank and all you have to do is feed them.

Fish are always easy to handle. Especially if you have a tank with a filter so you don't have to change the water very often. All they need is a sprinkle of food twice a day and they're happy.

Iguanas take ALOT of specialized care. From special lights to diet. Very complicated critter to care for.

fish are good. If you get a good enough filter and some "cleaning" fish, you'll hardly even have to clean their tank. Just don't forget to feed them. I knew someone who said it was cheaper to buy a new goldfish than to feed it. So once a week he just bought a new goldfish. Isn't that demented?
