Yes dvds can be played on your xbox. You dont need anything special attached. We dont have a dvd player and we watch all our dvds on our 360 xbox. We had the original xbox also, never bought anything special or extra for it. Just put your dvd in - and play usiing your remote. Enjoy!

Yes, you can, but like the lady said, you need the DVD kit. It's not expensive. In my opinion, using any XBOX for watching DVD's is about the only thing it is good for. Sony and the PS2 (and now the PS 3) Rock the game console world and always will. But there are some nice DVD watching features on the XBOX, like a good zoom feature, and more. I think that the DVD kit is about $20.00 now, if that.
(I have both...PS2 and XBOX. Let's put it this way...the XBOX was made to play only one game comfortably, and that game is HALO. It is the only game I have for the XBOX, and it looks so lonely amid the many PS2 titles I have).
Good Luck, and have a terrific weekend!

Yes you can, my kids are watching one right now.
You can also listen to Cd's, and save them on the XBox.
