How can i train my free roaming iguana to use a litter/water tray?

Question

I have just let him start wandering around and i want to teach him how to use his water bowl when he needs to go, any suggestions? (iggy keepers, prefered!)

Hi :-)
This CAN be done :-) Our oldest Iguana is a free roamer who is "potty trained". When he was in the very beginning stages of being a free roamer, I put him in a newspaper lined underbed storage container (made by Rubbermaid). If he got out before he "went" I placed him back in the container, if he "went", then and only then did he get to "free roam". With Noshi it only took a day. But remember each and every iguana is different. What works for one may not work for another.But that is how I did it. Hope this helps and Good Luck..

Umm - I'm not entirely sure that this can be done. Iggies are kinda stubborn when it comes to training - in fact, they are pretty much completely non-responsive to it. If you are lucky and your iguana likes pooping in water (mine does) then he will seek out the water bowl when he needs to go, but you can't guarantee that he will bother every time.

As your iggy gets bigger you may find that the water bowl you need to use gets ridiculously large. Mine won't poop in the water unless he can fit his ENTIRE body in the bowl. As he's around 6 ft this means a huge bowl. Also, when they get out they then drag poopy water around your floor (mmmmm).

There's not a lot you can do to punish or reward an iggy for its behaviour, and I'm not even sure that doing so would produce any result. Maybe you can be the one to prove me wrong, wish you luck in that!

it can! when u first get your iguana u want to pen it up in a very small space wherever u want it to do this, leave him there till he does his bussiness or gets water, once he goes there (clean up the mess obiously) and put newspaper there almost always thgey will continue to go in the same spot on that newspaper

u must pen them into a small area or else they might decide to make a couch or chair the area where they do their business
