x^2+1/x^2
=(x+1/x)^2-2
=4-2
=2
aliter
by reasoning we can say x=1
so x^2+1/x^8
=1+1
=2

The answer actually isn't three. It's two. Here's why...

Start with x + 1/x = 2. Multiply both sides of the eq'n by 'x'. Then you get:

x ^ 2 + 1 = 2x

Then subtract 2x from both sides:

x ^ 2 - 2x + 1 = 0

Then factor and solve:

(x - 1) ^ 2 = 0
x = 1

If x = 1, then

x ^ 2 + 1 / x ^ 8 = (1) ^ 2 + 1 / (1) ^ 8 = 1 + 1 = 2.

Multiply thru by x. This results with
x^2 +1 =2x proceed to
x^2-2x+1=0
(x-1)^2=0
x=1

x ^2+ 1/x^8 = 1 +1/1^8=1+1=2

x+1/x=2
so x^2+1=2x
so x^2-2x+1=0
taking square root,
x-1=0
x=1
so x^2+1/x^8=1+1=2.
So the answer is 2, not 3 as u mentioned.

given:
(x^2 +1)/x=2
x^2 +1=2x
x^2-2x+1=0
(x-1)^2=0
therefore x=1
x^2 +1/x^8=2
