how do i stop the instant messenger box popping up every time iclick on the internet?

my son uses it on his user accont but i dont ,so idont want to delete it alltogether

You have to deactivate the instant messenger program from starting at all.
1 Open the messenger program and change its system preferences so that it doesn't start each time the computer starts.

Your son's setting will be fine. All he will have to do is click on the program icon to start it up.

go 2 start, and click run.. type in msconfig, click ok.. at top of next page, click startup tab.. scroll down the list till see messenger, uncheck the box of messenger, if its there.. you can also go 2 the top of messenger and click login, then preferences.. here you can go down the list and set it 2 your liking : )

unfortunatly i have to disagree with the previous 2 answers.

Go to Tools, Options. general in messenger.

there is an option there to disable the autostart or to stop the window opening when it starts etc. you'll see what i mean.
