No money on Free Parking! The object of the game is to bankrupt the other players. The game will never end if you give players $500 for a lucky roll of the dice!
A better idea is the Stock Market variant from the Hasbro web site. Go to www.hasbro.com. Click on "rules." Look for Stockmarket (one word) game. Download the rules and cards. Mount the cards on cardboard and get ready to re-enjoy this classic game!

According to a gentleman from "Parker Brothers", who was recently on the Diane Rheame show on National Public Radio, the free parking space was never intended to be a windfall for anyone landing on the space. All taxes, penalties etc, are to go into the bank. The whole idea of the game is to be the last player with all of the real estate/money. If you keep giving away free money, it will take a long time to end the game. For everyone who says the game Monopoly takes to long, would be amazed to watch, Monopoly Tournaments, most do not last more than 90 minutes long when they follow all of the rules.

According to the official Monopoly rules, nothing is supposed to happen when you land on Free Parking. However, a lot of people (including me) think that's pretty boring. So what a lot of people do is whenever they have to pay Income Tax, Luxury Tax, or anything from a Chance or Community Chest card, that money goes to the middle of the board. Whenever someone lands on Free Parking, they get all the money on the middle of the board. That is sort of the "unofficial" rule when playing Monopoly with friends.

I don't know if I know the correct answer, but when we play, we put all money collected (except for when you land on someones property or are buying a property) in the No Parking space and whoever lands on it gets all the money! It makes it more fun! The rules probably don't say to do that, but we don't care, we always make our own rules! It's much more fun!

this is really just a matter of opinion. i personally like to play that money taken from players goes into the bank, and whoever lands on free parking gets the money. it can really help me out when i am running out of money. i know that some people do not play like that, but i like to.

No. The official rules don't allow for it, and if you play this particular "house rule", you're going to have a VERY long game. The game continues until all but one player is bankrupt; if you keep putting more money into players' hands, it takes that much longer for this to happen.

We used to do this when I was a kid - ie back in the stone age. It was like winning the lottery. I had no idea that anyone else did this.
I say do it, for the sake of tradition.
^%$#% the rules, you bought the game, play the way that is most fun for you!
