There is some value in the expensive products. Often, they have an amazing texture, feel light and smooth on the skin, smell amazing, etc. Obviously, each of the different brands suits different skin.
I'm poor and can't afford them so I make do with the cheap off-the-shelf variety.. some are great and I have no complaints, some are pretty awful, but again, just for my skintype.
If I were rich, I'd have no hesitation in buying the more expensive brands. I believe they'd be well worth the investment.

Admittedly I am a beauty junkie - I can spend anything from £10 to £180 on make up or skincare.
I love nice packagin, although when you have so much, it becomes tedious and I actually take all my make up out of the orginal case and put it in a new, cheaper package.
In terms of quality - some things you can scrimp on, like body lotion - but other things - like moisturiser, cleanser, masks can be amazing from more luxury brands.
If you have good skin then using Boots and Superdrugs own brand is adequate - but I believe in prevention rather than cure.
I'm 25 I dont have any wrinkles - all my friends have wrinkles, especially under their eyes (cud be genetic though!)
Expensive cosmetics also have a far higher level of technology invested into them; companies like Estee Lauder, Shiseido, Loreal (who own many prestigous brands) spend millions on researching the newest ingredients - and more importantly, the best way to deliver them to the skin.
You can, for example, sell a Superdrug cream with "Vitamin C" -but unless that cream has a vehicle/essential ingredient that can
deliver it to the skin, it wont matter how much Vit C it has in it.
A £120 cream has that cream, has that techolnolgy which has taken years to develop, so can deliver the vitamins to the skin.
The skincare that really costs you represents the best of the latest technology and in my opinion, I can see and feel a difference - my skin stings when I use cheaper brands.
Oh and with expensive brands, if it doesnt work for you, you can take it back! I think you wouldn't return a 99p tub of Chamomile face cream to Superdrug, eh?

Some are, some aren't. I would never pay more than a couple of quid for a cleanser but because i have sensitive skin, I use an Origins face mask because it's the only one that I can use. If you have normal, well-behaved skin, then Boots and Superdrug own brand are fine but premium skincare is useful if you have problem skin and also as you get older.

More expensive products aren't necessarily better than inexpensive ones. You are paying for packaging, advertising, & of course, brand name. I like a pretty package, but I don't like it enough to shell out big bucks for a jar that's going to sit in my make-up case. I've used expensive & inexpensive brands. The inexpensive brands work just as well, in fact most of my products are drugstore products & I have the best complexion I've ever had. I'm 39 & I don't have a line or wrinkle, nor blemish on my face. Just make sure you use products made for your skin type & ALWAYS use sunscreen. The sun causes 99% of wrinkles, so be good to your skin.

Boots, Superdrug and M&S own brand creams are usually supplied by a well known skin care manufacturer anyway so if you buy these, you're already buying a known brand but at a cheaper price. Having said that, I used the Elemis Marine cream and it really did do amazing things for my skin and well worth the £70 a tub it cost. You only use a small amount and boy did the collagen make my small lines disappear!

I think you get what you pay for! And the quality of expensive, designer brand are much better than the cheap make-up you get from Boots or superdrug!

Cheap skincare products work just as well as expensive ones. Don't forget it's your diet too when it comes to looking after your skin, drink lots of water too. Moisturise well before going out into the cold from a warm place. All these thing count. x

I'm not as sure about moisturizers, but when it comes to eye make up the expensive stuff is much better. Everytime I use the cheap stuff my eyes get very irritated, red and watery. It's not fun. Also, I have noticed that expensive powders even my skin tone much better than cheaper ones. I like MAC products, Bobby Brown and Estee Lauder.

I think it depends on the product and the brand. I find that some of the inexpensive makeup and lotions work fine...My favorite body wash is made by Suave, lol (99 cents at walmart), but I have alot better luck with the professional brand named hair products. Especially shampoos and conditioners.

Find out the ingedients then look them up on your PC. You'll find most the cheap products have fillers, chemicals, and some animal by products. If you want to soak that into your skin go ahead! Remember your skin is like a sponge....that's why ppl use patches for birth control and to stop smoking. I never really thought much about that till lately. Too many of my friends, including myself, getting tumors and stuff. Most tumors are made up of the junk we smear on our skin.
I started using Arbonne products...now I sell them. They are Pure, Safe, and Beneficial. Vegan approved (no animal products or testing). Read my profile if you want more info...e-mail me!
