You have a good point. I just returned from a trip to the Mississippi coast. There is still a lot of storm damage yet to be fixed. Insurance companies have refused to pay settlements claiming the storm surge flooding caused all the damage. People are still living in campers in the driveways of their destroyed homes. More than half of the businesses haven't reopened, and lots of people are without jobs.
It was hard for me to believe I was still in America.

Well there is money to be made off of the war, plus leaving the gulf coast region in shambles probably just makes them laugh. Even the rich need humor man.
Why would you try and seek an explanation for anything this government does. It is fairly simple, if money is to be off of something they are all over it, otherwise eh who cares.

OK, lets say we don't spend the billions on a war. I still don't see a reason to spend billions of tax dollars rebuiding your beach house.
If my neighbors house burns down should the government tax you to rebuild it. There is a risk to living on the gulf coast. Hurricanes hit that area almost every year. Just in case you haven't noticed. Why should the rest of the country be penalized so a few people can live on the beach.

War is a better business to those in power than building is. Also, there are other shady characters in construction business to give competition that can not be ruled out by legislation. To the society, which ultimately funds whatever action is made the building up would be most beneficial in the long run. All leaders have the same mind, how to stay in the saddle for as long as possible and how to make as much money as possible while at it. Hopefully the turnaround in U.S political atmosphere has some reflection to foreign politics as well...

Because Iraq has WMDs. And then Saddam was one serious threat to US (and the world) and so he had to be removed. Also, establishing democracy is one of our top priorities. Now we have more safer US and, in fact, a much safer world. Is that not enough for you ? Do you think taking care of the gulf region to everyone's satisfaction would have gotten Bush relected ?

At this point in time, all we can do is correct what we have done. It would be wrong for the US to leave this region as it is. We must change our plans and keep the innocent Iraqi citizens uppermost in mind. We are doing so much good there, and bad.I think history will show Iraq as a mistake, but we don't need to continue to compound it.
