I know everyone doesn't do this, but a lot do! they have huge tool collections, but seldom use them. What is the point? I'm sure there are many handy man out there, who do use tools often, and the ones I know usually have a small collection which they use all the time. The other ones have a whole basement full and don't use them.

Peaches, I don't like shopping, and I tend to buy secondhand clothes and furniture. So our house is not full of stuff!

Okay, william_v, here's my shoe list:
1 pr. work shoes
2 pr. dress shoes
2 pr. sandals
1 pr.duck boots
2 pr. winter boots (1 dressy, 1 sporty)
I realize that I own less than average, and I understand the point you are making. I suppose I could have asked, 'why do women never have enough shoes?'... see, I don't understand that, either! Maybe someone reading this would like to put that question on Y!A. What is your answer to my tool question?

many answers to this, some simply want to "look" like they can do something, some simply want an item "in case" they ever need it...and some simply cant refuse a "bargain". But for me Learning how to fix and repair almost anything needs all types of tools and I'm self taught. It beats paying others to fix things and saves lots of cash..also it makes you feel great knowing you did it yourself. Also you learn that others dont even know as much as you think they did. also having one tool, can save you hundreds if you can do it yourself. I also wonder why women have so many shoes, or tubes of make up, or .........or...or

I will admit i have the same affliction and i will tell you why i buy tools all the time is because it is easier to buy a certain tool than try and find a friend or relative that will have one and won't let you barrow it unless there is a contract sighned, also i collect vintage tools as a hobby much like other men go golfing or collect nascar stuff. Well i hope this helps a little.

If you are serious about tools, and hate to borrow, you will have tools you seldom use. Of course there are expensive tools that are special to the job at hand, trench diggers, torches, welding etc, that you can rent.I thought of starting a sort of project club that would buy and use tools on a community level. I know of neighbors that bought a roter-rooter when they had drainage problems along the block, and this benefits everyone. It's alright to have many tools, as long as care is taken to keep them in working order.

I have worked in automotive, electrical, electronics, and now home repair. If a tool is needed regulary, I will buy it. If it is expensive and seldom used, I will rent it. Having the right tool for the job saves time and money as well as making the job easier.

The first one is a bit small, not enough floor space, but the second really is perfect, but a severe warning, TAKE HEED BEFORE YOU PUT ANYTHING IN THERE!! REPLACE THE WHEEL. The rats foot or tail can get stuck in the bars, even if they are very close together, the toes can get stuck and the nails would get broken, you would end up with a very unhappy rat, but just get a large cheap wheel and the cage is perfect =D And yeah, you should get 2 rats, they need company for when your at school/work, and when your not able to play with them

A boy and his toys, you can't separate them. When my father was still with us, we would try and avoid driving by any Canadian Tire Store, or if we wanted to get rid of him for a few hours, we would leave him at a Canadian Tire,Home Hardware, etc. Go look in your bedroom, check how much "stuff" you have that is duplicated. Make-up,clothing,shoes,accessories,etc,etc and to this day, I could spend a day just looking around Shopper's;The Dollar Stores;Winners;Zellers; and I bet you do also! And, guess what, We come home with all kinds of duplications. Let him have fun, if it isn't straining the budget, and get him to start "fixing" things... idle hands make waste...

I have allot of tools but wish I had more, you will eventually use all your specialty tools some time even if it's years from now. You also get to be a hero when your neighbor needs to borrow something.

I know myself in most instances it is cheaper to buy than to rent if you're going to need it more than once . Then there is also the testosterone thing where "my tool is bigger than yours" . Also it goes along with some women who buy an outfit hoping that someday it will fit .

No matter what I have I find a use for it. If you don't have the right tool for the job you can ruin a part or make the job a lot harder.

Its their hobby. Some collect stamps, others collect tools. My sister collects porcelain dolls. Never plays with them, they are on display.
