The situation in Iraq reminds me of trying to hold water in your bare hands. The present government is like a Mirage in the desert, and will surely fall, maybe as soon as this week if the Shiites threat holds up. If we leave Iraq will collapse. If we stay it will collapse slower, but still collapse. The idea that fundamentalists, no matter of what stripe, will have control of Iraq's oil I'm sure is making people sweat all over the world. Oil must be reasonably stable. To accomplish this end, Bush is going to have to open this up and really include the rest of the world in discussions, military personnel, planning, and execution, if there is any hope at this point Let us hope that it is not too late for some form of reasonable solution to be worked out.

Why? The same thing would happen again.
What do you think about this?
1. Redeploying our forces to secure the Iraqi borders with Syria and Iran, thus preventing insurgents from entering Iraq. (Isn't this Bush's stated reason for being there? to combat the terrorist insurgents?).
2. Redeploying some forces to secure the oil fields (the real reason we are there). Begin oil production. Place the proceeds into a trust account for the Iraqi government, minus our costs for prosecuting the war.
3. Let the Iraqis work out their own internal problems. I dont think that anybody really gives a crap about the Iraqis, anyway. So if they decide to kill each other in a civil war, OK. Eventually a government will emerge. If that government wants US help, require a referendum of the people asking for it.
4. Inform whatever government that emerges that if they threaten the US again, we will be back to kick butt again. We are very efficient at overthrowing governments. Just not good at pushing Democracy down the throat of ape-ish rag heads by gunpoint.
Mission accomplished.

What do you mean by "When"? The Iraq goverment is already all but over. It's a goverment in name only. It's already impotent.
But hey, I say we leave and find another country to invade. But make sure it doesn't have any nukes and has a small army so we can win. How about Cuba? They don't have oil but I sure would like to be able to buy their cigars in the U.S.

At that point, why leave the job half-done ? We might as well decimate whatever population is remaining and claim complete victory. We may lose a couple of ten thousand or so or our soldiers. But who cares, while we are sacrificing them for no valid reason.

You'd think the group that accomplished this would have some suggestions. Should we wait for the far right to help us out.................O yea that's the group that got us here with no idea to get us out.
Leave, relocate next door. pull back to the oil fields and defend that, move where the Kurds are but get our guys out of the line of fire.
