Making Necklaces?

Question

Does anyone know what they are called, or how to make, the kind of necklace made of string where the front is the one string but the back looks like two strings held by knots? Its the kind of necklace you don't take off. The string on one is shreding and I like the beads, so I want to just make my own, but I have no idea how. Any help would be great.

Its got three little beads in front on one string, held by knots, then there are two more knots, and it kind of looks like the string went around, and then was layed on top of itself and tied into the other knot. I doubt I'm making any sense...
