I don't think all the retailers recive their shipments all at the same time. That would simply be too hard to coordinate.
I went to a Best Buy and Target yesterday that looked at me like I was stupid for even asking about one, then went to a Toys R Us and got a Wii still cold from being on the truck.

I don't know which country you are in, but on Wednesday I spoke to a frontline employee of a large UK games store. They told me they'd received a memo (e-mail) stating that they had just secured another batch of Wii's and would be re-opening pre-orders on a first come first serve basis. People could have already reserved all of those by now, tho.
