This is something I have always wondered about. It seems logical to me that nothing should exist. So you would have absolute darkness, absolute cold and absolute silence, because it takes energy for any of that to change. In all of the endless years of unrecorded time, apparantly nothing happened. Then suddenly energy/matter appeared like magic. What changed? Excuse my ignorance of physics but I am not sure physicists really know.

Matter and energy are part of the universe, just like time and space are, it a unit, really.
Astrophysicists have proven that matter distorts space. If space is distorted, time is affected... Matter is also another form of energy, proven by the law of conservation.

Its like a cake, a cake needs all the ingredients mixed together in order to be a cake. Flour or sugar alone are not a cake.
Why would space be without time?

I think only G-d knows, really!

Energy is a process; its not a substance as many theories and beliefs seems to allude to. That is why there are so many question marks in Physics.
Many theories rely on whether an idea or phenomenon fits mathematically. Just because some thing fits mathematically does not always means it represents reality.

Even though atomic structures of masses have been explained by theory Physiscs ran unto a stump when they stopped at the quarks to describe energy. They were not able for further explain what substance formed the atomic elements.

Presently ,they are trying to describe a form of Aether theory Which in the past had be discredited. Never the less thu observation of the Galaxies motion ,they have come up with the Idea of dark energy. This is really a energy density of space ( Aether )which Einstein described in his comological constant.

Therefore what they had rejected about the Aether is now being reconsidered as being a real system having the property of power storage in space.

Matter and mass are basically the same except they appear in different forms.

Mass structure was necessary in order to form the Universe in the version we observe it to be.

What substance does matter really exist as or in what structure is a question which I have to realize that we have a limit. This is where I have to admit I have no scientific way to determine what is the substance that is the cause of energy. Except we know what it does.

We come to have some knowlege when we realize that Humans ( that includes physists) have a limitation.

Man has to know his limitations.

God only knows. We probably think Big Bang hapened but we do not know what happen from 0 to 10 to the power of minus 23 seconds.

I cannot answer this question with confidence
I suppose that the big bang contained all information to create matter , energy once for ever
