Well if he is whimpering and an extremely high temp., it could be a number of things....but a high temp is always indicative that something is wrong..Is he pulling at his/her ears??, usually that is the sign for that.
One of my twins was whining, had a very high temp, drooling/pulling at mouth... and I am thinking that his tooth is coming in.....I took him to the Dr and come to find out he has a very strange virus that is causing him blisters in his mouth/throat...so it is BEST that you just call your dr.. b/c it could be a number of things....
Also, what is a very high temp? Make sure you are taking it rectally and if it is 104 or close, I would take him/her to the ER, I wouldn't want an infant seizure (just in case)....., give the baby tylenol, and a bath, and keep a little washcloth on his/her head and face.....If the baby starts sweating it may seem logical to take him out of their clothes but its actually better to put them in a light sleeper or something of the sort.
Hope the baby feels better, my little guy was like this for several days...its sad to see them not feel well
:) hope this helps

First of all if he has a high fever you should call his doc right away and sometimes when kids have earaches they may pull at their ears, but sometimes this isn't a definate sign because babies who are teething pull at their ears. Good Luck and hope the little one gets well.

you should take your child to the emergancy room. The doctor won't be open today, but your child needs antibiotics now. Ear infections are very painful, can cause very high fevers, and can cause perminante hearing loss. Take your baby in now.

Is he pulling at his ear? Everytime my son has had an ear infection he pulls at his ear and sticks his finger in it. I would definatly call your doctor especially since he's running a fever.
