YES!! Not just football either. professional athletes get paid an obscene amt of money...oh, are they saving lives and changing the world? Doctors earn their salaries. Nurses, policemen, and all civil employees need a bump up. No family of an American soldier should have to be on PUBLIC ASSISTANCE in order to care for their families. Something is egregiously off center here.

like I said...obscene.

If supply/demand get out of kilter and clubs get a minimal return on the investments - or even risk going bust - then prices would have to reduce and players would of course prefer a wage cut rather than lose their jobs. And at current wage levels they could easily do so whilst the majority would fare much more badly. But a wage cap just because we don't agree £100,000 pw is a 'fair' wage is another proposition altogether. As Mr O'Shea mentions in good trading conditions clubs would find all sorts of ways round any mechansism to limit wages - as happened when it was £100 pw. Besides which - if income levels remained high, wouldn't the 'savings' achieved by a cap just go to the shareholders ?

Its called supply and demand - if the demand is there the salaries will be paid. The financial rewards for clubs playing in European competitions are enormous, so if a team wants to be successful they try to buy the best players to compete. Catch 22 situation. Just as long as football continues to stir such allegiance among the fans and remains an accessible sport for the masses then the salaries will be paid. As long as the game can support such demands then why not pay? Clever companies have created a society where gifted people are rewarded.

I think all professional players are paid too much. It's a joke to be paid 10 million a year to play football, base ball, basketball, hockey, etc.

There is currently a salary cap in the NFL.

In a sense, yes. If 1/2 their salary was taken away, they'd still be rich and we could use the money for other causes.

In another sense, no. They are in incredibly high demand, and therefore are worth incredibly high prices.

Absolutely!! I agree that their career is not going to last as long as someone with a normal job, but what they get nowadays is absolutely ridiculous!
I think they should have a cap of say, $100K per year. That's damn good money, and if they watch it and take care of their investments, they can make that last a lifetime. There is no sense in some ignorant muscle-bound freak making 8 million a year for playing a game. And that's what they're doing, folks,is playing. PLAYING. a GAME. NOT working. NOT contributing anything worthwhile to society. NOT learning to deal with the real world. PLAYING. And they also need to realize that they need to be more than just regular people, coz they've got all these kids watching them and wanting to be like them, so they should make sure that they act the way they should, instead of being idiots like many of them do, thinking they don't have to obey the laws and such, just because they're rich.
Sorry, got me going there. Didn't mean to ramble.

they 're paid far too much, & you have no guarentee they will score a goal in any match. there should be a limit to their salary, someone that does the same job, day in day out gets upwards of 5pound per hour, & HAS to do the job or gets the sack.!!!!
