The answer is actually in your question......
Turn off the TV. I am serious. I would tell you to throw it away, but the TV is good for some things every once in a while. Turn it off, and get outside.

TV tells you exactly how you should look, act, what things you should have, and what should be most important to you when really all they want you to do is buy their product. If the commercials convince you that you are NOTHING without their products, you go out and spend money, hence making money for the companies.

I see everyone dancing around with Ipods on tv....how ridiculous.

I have never had a cell phone, a walkman/ipod, gps, palm pilot/raspberry, plasma tv.

What city do you live in? What is your age? Can you move to a cheaper city? What did you do before you went on welfare? Do you have kids?

You are on this site, so you must have a computer. Use it to get what you want...a job that you enjoy, additional education (you can take out loans easily and pay them back after you graduate)

I felt so desperate about the same things you do just recently, and enrolling in classes to learn a new profession has given me more optimism. (I am 40)

Go into Eastern philospohy. Start with reading. The phiolosphy will lead you to the worthwhile things in life.
As Buddha woudl say, all ills start with desires. You have figured this out for yourself, so what to do now? You will find the path.
Good luck with your other problems. I know they make it really hard to just reach out and help everyone else like Mother Theresa did (not that anyone has ever replicated her!)
But even so, if there are productive things that your limitations will not prevent you from doing, then feeling good about your contributions is the best thing you can possibly do!

Those with all the possessions you seem to hanker after aren't any happier than you are...possessions or money don't make you happy...happiness is a state of mind ..I know just as many people without all the trappings of success who are to be envied because they are happy and content with life..money and possessions are not the answer to any problem if anything they cause more...worry about your health issues...no amount of money can buy good health...

First of all, you can't take that stuff with you when you die! Second, the stuff you have the more crap you have to deal with. If you really want more material posessions go to yard sales and thrift stores. Other peoples trash really are some peoples treasures.

You tell yourself you don't need it and keep a total of the prices. Then you look at your imaginary savings and feel good about yourself. I know what it's like and realise it just makes you more depressed, but it's part of the learning pattern to help you in your recovery. Good luck
