The guy above me has it right. Work on your throwing motion. That's the only way you're going to throw farther. Working out your arms will NOT make you throw farther, in fact, having bigger arms usually means losing flexibility and that would actually hurt your throwing strength. I threw javelin in college, and one thing we learned was that your arm is only going to throw as far as it wants to, trying to force it will only make you shorten your throwing motion and shorten your throws. Arm strength starts in the legs (oddly enough), its all about getting your whole body into the throw. So get your throwing motion down, and you will start to throw farther. You can also start working on your core muscles (stomach, lower back, upper legs), as these will help generate power in your throw more than any other muscle group. (BTW I was the exact opposite in high school, I couldn't make QB either, but I had a cannon for an arm and I couldn't hit the side of a barn.)

If your coach has suggested you throw at greater distances, then he should teach you how (that's what coaches are for, right?)... anyway, it's all in your stance and strength. To throw farther, you throw with more strength. Just make sure your leg stance comes through AFTER your arm passes across your body (if your leg stance comes before, correct this). You might also want to contact another QB in your area (at another school) and ask for a bit of tutoring (especially if your coach just likes to tell you what you need to improve instead of teaching you how). Good luck!

Practice makes perfect. Work on your throw, fluid motion with a good follow through. Don't force it, it will come on it's own.

It is not necessarily your arm strength you need to work on. You may need to practice the motion until you get it down fluently.
