I cannot keep foucused on any one project. My mind strays onto other things and then i lose the chance to make a success of anything. How do you maintain a focus in your life? How do you keep negative influences and situations from destroying your focus? How do you maintain belief in what you are focused on? I believe to be able to maintain a path towards a goal is what brings happiness in life, so how do you some people seem able to do that without being distracted from it?

You can choose to have whatever qualities you want. However some people are very linear thinkers and can do only think a a time. Some people can multitask and their brains work better that way. If you are having trouble focusing you should try some yoga and/or meditation. I think it would really help you. Also, try to work in an environment without distractions.

Well, most people are born with the capability to focus but environmental genetics play a large part in the development of that ability. Whether you learn it from your parents or not though you have the option of praticing focusing. Meditation(and I don't mean religiously here) is the best way I have found to improve focusing ability.
the difficulties you are describing sound more along the lines of co-dependency to me though. And that can really mess with your ability to focus and persevere in a given task. even one as simple as meditating
