Trafalgar Square is a must but it's busy and parking will be impossible-
Some train services and tubes run through the night so use public transport.

I disagree about Trafalgar Square. Yeah, it's traditional but there's also loads of trouble there. Everyone is drunk and there are lots of fights and arrests. The police try to discourage people from going there. Plus it's freezing. Having said that, it's the only free outdoor event I know of in London for New Year. Most people here go to the pub or stay at home and have house parties.

Trafalgar Square is the traditional gathering spot. However, like the sales, it's best to set up camp at least a day in advance to get the best spot.

150,000 watched the midnight fireworks from Victoria Embankment last year.
Make you own mind up if that is your thing. If you want to go to a pub, get there by 19:00
