Why? I'll Explain!

Some critics didn't think so, just as some critics didn't think so for lord of the rings, or titanic, either. But it convinces me and thrashes competition like doogie howser m.d. for instance.

Another nutshell down.

By the way, I also liked CRY WOLF, which some critics hated for no reason at all.

The real question should be: What's the point of Oscars?
How can you judge one person's taste against another person's? Lets just presume all the films are of a high standard so why and how can one be better than the other? It's just an excuse for Hollywood to get their glad rags on and pat each other on the back for the most part, (which is perfectly ok but completely pointless).

Contrary to popular, and official belief the film was NOT written by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. It was in fact written by William Goldman, a veteran screen writer who exposes this fraud in his biog, Which Lie Did I Tell. He was paid by MIrammax, the films distribution company to keep quiet about it as, with the Oscar's approaching it was a fantastic marketing ploy to advertise the film. It worked. Goldman, who has written far better films, Bridge Too Far, Marathon Man, Bucth Cassidy and the Sundance Kid was payed handsomely for his trouble and in this book has no hard feelings. No one has sued him for the book so one can only assume he is telling the truth. I think the film is ok, but it doesn't live up to too many viewings, but then, why should it have to! If it means something to you, then that's the most important thing!

I reluctantly watched GWH, cause I thought a kid (genius) with emotional issues, not wanting his gift, and seeing a shrink, would be depressing. However it was great. Yeah well deserved Oscar.

And the movie was acutally written by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, as they sought to get themselves in to the movie business and establish themselves properly.

Update: Stayin. - re your posts 3 below mine saying "Contrary to popular belief.. the film was actually written by,,."

Maybe you should not neg me.. and actually get your facts right before spouting off false information.

Check Wikipedia about this film and learn the facts that it WAS Matt Damon and Ben Affleck that wrote Good Will Huntiing.

The widely-spread rumor that Good Will Hunting was written by legendary screenwriter William Goldman was dismissed in Goldman's book Which Lie Did I Tell? as a joke that got out of hand.

No, it didn't.
Here's why:
Matt Damon
Ben Affleck
Robin Williams
Three of the most boring excuses for actors in filmland.
And for a bonus, the script was lame, and written by two of the above "most boring".
