My wife is about 9.5 days late. We had sex 2 times this month (I work irregular hrs) I wore a condom with spermicidal lubricant and did not ejaculate in her. She has taken name brand home pregnancy tests on the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th days of her missed period. (All negative) A couple of days before her period was due her sister had a pretty serious medical scare and yesterday she found out that her parents are having some SEVERE financial problems. She keeps telling me she isn't pregnant. My question is, will the stress brought on by her family situation and the hoildays cause her to this late or longer, or is she more than likely pregnant?

Stress can affect the periods. If she has taken all those test and they are all negative you can be pretty sure that she is not pregnant...;

Its very likely if you have had safe sex she isn't pregnant. Women's period are very fragile and if she is stressed then its very likely her period would be affected. Pregnancy is normally the last thing that should come to mind when a period is delayed but it seems we all think of pregnancy first. Crazy I know but there are many reasons a period can be delayed and stress is number one in the list, with all the problems your wife has on her mind at the moment its not surprising she is late. If she misses her next period then she should see a doctor to get checked out and if it is only stress the doctor may be able to recommend something to lower her stress levels and get her systems back on track. I wish you all the very best. and hope this helps.

Stress can cause you to completely miss a period. Especially severe stress.

It is very unlikely that 7 days AFTER her period was late she was unable to get a positive, that normally occurs between 2 days before to 2 days after.
