The come from Roman language which is the basis of most written language in the western world. I would suggest reading the wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital_letters for a start to help you understand why it is done and then click on some of the links there for more information.

Good Luck!!!

Before the printing presses and the type writers, it was not easy to separate the sentences. The capital were used to do so.

The other trick was the space between the words.

If you see real old Sunkist literature some writes have use bigger letters to start the sentences, granted, they did not have two different script(eg:a and A), in that respect the European script was further developed.

Actually punctuations came later, to further facilitate the understanding. I am not sure the sequence but even the paragraph and inverted comas came much later, then in certain languages like French German........ more sounds were added by using, vowel, to day known as acute, grave, umlaut and ..........

Sanskrit base languages have 36 or so letters in the alphabets, initially and even at the present English has only 26 letters. By the way Arabic has 32 of them.

Most college dictionary carry this type of information some where, and compare the various scripts.

in the days until eventually now printing exchange into invented, each and every thing had to be written by hand. most of the letters of the English alphabet weren't a similar in decrease case as they have been in bigger case (or capitals). That meant that a scribe had to understand the capitals besides because of the fact the small (decrease case) letters. He could no longer, as an occasion, write a capital A and merely guess that the small version would be a similar, because of the fact it wasn't (and it nonetheless isn't a similar!). it particularly is in all hazard why we see capitals and small letters revealed jointly in a baby's early reading e book. various the variations between capitals and small letters have long previous, by the years, yet, even right this moment, there are variations between the two variations. as an occasion: Aa; Bb; Gg; Hh; Ii; Jj; Ll; Nn; Qq; Rr; Tt; Yy. A author has to understand the variations, in any different case he would merely be observed as a dunce.

I don' tknow all the details but i hate capitizalization, and al western grammar. tottlaty lame. but it developed around the time of the type writer and newspapers. there was a case to keep all the rubber stamps. the big letters were kept in the top of the case (upper case letters) and the small ones were at the bottom (lower case). Any way thatis how they got their name.
upper case and lower case letters increase the organisation. i, known hindi isn't unorganised. but how can you make some letters bigger if they al hve to go on that line thing, it will look totally weird.
and indians were always the smart ones and will always be!

Something similar to bookmarking we do on websites so that it is easy to reach a particular spot. Sentences usually begin with caps and so it is somewhat easy to locate a sentence by looking at capital alphabets which are ofcourse less in numbers
