Actually its every 2 years for the house, 4 years for president, and 6 years for the senate

We elect a president every 4 years not five, and we hold elections every year not every other year.

The president serves a four year term, the senators serve 6 year terms and the congressmen serve 2 year terms, in addition to this each state has its own rules for the state legislative positions. Some match the federal elections some do not.

Cities, and counties also have local elections for various things, mayors, board of education members, and a host of others, there is no rule that controls when local elections will be held.

In addition to this in many states you can have ballot inititives, that is laws that are passed directly by the voters. In some states these can take place any year not just a year in which the president is elected.

The US president is elected every four years. The US Senators are elected every six years.. while the Representatives in the House are elected every two years. Half of the Senators and half of the representatives are up for election every two years to ensure that there is some continuity with those who are not being elected. This supposedly reduces some of the turmoil of the transition..

There are 100 Senators in the US Congress and 435 US Congressmen (House of Representatives).. Every two years, half of the congressmen are up for election and approximately 1/3 rd of the Senators are up for election.. The remaining Senators stay in office for an additional two years. The Presidential election is every four years.. I hope this clears some of the confusion up..

Actually we have them every year. What positions come up based on terms which are offset as well. example NY state has 2 senators ( all states have 2) these 2 senators have elections in different years term 6 years. This assures a mixing of the groups and reflects voter interest. (perfect no, better than most other forms of government? I think so......

President is elected every 4 years, not every 5 years.
Congress (the House) is elected every two years; every rep is up for re-election.
Senators are elected for six years, but the elections are staggered so that a third are elected every two years.

Even prisoners are given parole hearings. If we didn't have elections every 2 years the capital would be so corrupt you would think you lived in Mexico City.

You got the years wrong but that's OK its a good question....
If you ask me I think its good,,,Americans believe government for the people by the people....Its a balance and check process..
If the person you vote for doesn't represent what they promised you can vote them out sooner than later...A European prime minister can stay in office for years.depends on what party is in power in the states a President can only stay in power eight years... AND THE WHOLE WORLD SHOULD BE GLAD ABOUT THAT!!

Because terms for Members of the House of Representatives run two years. Presidential terms run four years and Senatorial terms run six years.
