I chose a university degree course some years ago and in hindsight it was the wrong course choice as it wasnt specific enough to a particular career route.

I now see friends earning (much) more money than me which enables them to enjoy themselves to a much greater extent (Holidays, Houses etc...) despite the fact that I have worked just as hard to achieve.

I know I am lucky in that I own a nice (small) house and have a loving family and great girlfriend but I cant help but look back with regret and think, what if?...

Spending time regretting choices made in life is very unproductive...either you do something about it or don't, its that simple. More importantly, you need to enjoy and appreciate what you have. I'm not in the career I'd always wished for, but I have a great life. I make lots of money, great home, two cars, beautiful wife and kids. I'm damn lucky!! Many others are not. be thankful!

Who among us doesn't have some regrets in how we approached something in our lives? Rather than focus on the lack, focus on the abundance that is in your life.

What makes you think that your friends have it so much better than you? They may look at you and see someone who doesn't live beyond their means, is doing something they love, has a outstanding support system and a great girlfriend to boot. Something we should all aspire to have in our lives, but sometimes forget about in pursuing the tangible.

If they were to hear you, they might be asking why you don't see what is clearly in front of you.

I agree that money shouldn't be the measure of a person. Count your richness in the experiences that make you the person you are, the blessings bestwoed upon you in that you have friends who don't pre-judge you.

Regret? Who has time for it? What purpose does it serve?

All we have in life is this moment. Not yesterday's moment. Not tomorrow's moment. If you aren't happy with the direction your current status is, then do something about it. Perhaps that is what your friends did. After all, how many of us are currently doing what we thought we would when we were in high school/college?

You still have time.

Money isn't everything. I had a couple of friends some years back who had a lot more money than I did. They spent it on cocaine.

I skipped my last semester of Spanish so I could take a psychology course from a famous professor who turned out to be a total jerk and I've been kicking myself ever since. Recently I enrolled in a Spanish class that turned out to be a dud. I figure about half the time I spent in school in my life was wasted. I've had enough of that. I dropped the course and lost my tuition money. In two years I'll be old enough to audit classes for free at the community college or the state college, and that's what I'm going to do, amigo.

they may be rich in holidays and houses but do they have a good loving family and a great girlfriend or wife as you do this is very rich to have in ones life. but if this coarse is important try and get a the coarse done on part time bases if you can not afford to do it full time.

You can't change the past but you can look forward to the future. Be glad for your friends and what they have achieved and remember you are never too old to learn, go to night classes or colledge and get the qualification you need to change your life into what you desire, if you want something enough, it can be done, with perseverance. x

What you seem to be saying is that you are happy, except for being envious of your friends' material success. .So, if you can stop being envious, your happiness will be unblemished..

Or, putting things another way, if all your friends were made redundant next Monday, would that make you feel any better?

Your friends' good fortune should make you happy for them, not miserable about yourself.

Don't think of what if.....go back to college, possibly nighttime and continue to enhance your education. It is never too late.
