What I remember about Sri Lanka from my visit in 1973 is:

1. They charge money for you to sit on elephants so they can photograph you with your own camera. The bad thing about it is the guy screws with the camera settings so you end up with an over exposed roll of film.

2. They have huge bats that fly as fast as a speeding tour bus when traveling at night.

3. They use broken glass imbedded in mortar instead of barbed wire on walls around perimeters.

4. I could have sworn their national bird was the crow since Colombo has more crows per capita than London, NYC, and Tokyo have pigeons.

5. Sri Lanka has the best tea in the world.

All I know about Sri Lanka is that it is an island country south of India used to be called Ceylan (I think) and the capital is Colombo.
I'd like to go there though..too bad the political situation is kinda volatile.
