individually i might basically circulate with determining to purchase a working laptop or pc. Getting roped right into a 2 365 days settlement for besides the undeniable fact that lots money a month does not fairly allure to me. in case you isn't doing lots with it previous utilising the internet and different casual initiatives, you may fairly %. up a notebook for $3 hundred-4 hundred that could nonetheless be incredibly respectable. That way in case you ever desire an improve or to do something else with it down the line, you have flexibility. i might on no account propose getting a working laptop or pc on hire, yet i'm probable biased because of the fact that i'm constantly upgrading factors, and function thoroughly replaced each and every thing in my gadget over the process the final 365 days. yet fairly, do you desire to nonetheless be procuring a notebook that could ok be overpriced for the subsequent 2 years once you may get a notebook that met your maximum outstanding needs and budget and then be completed with it without spending lots? in case you at the instant are not doing any photograph modifying/gaming/movie making/rendering, then you certainly fairly do no longer could spend lots on a notebook. some hundred dollars will do the activity and nonetheless get you a effective device.

Both will do the things that you want to do. A laptop will generally be more expensive. So it now depends on where you want to use it. I use a laptop because I don't want a compute hanging about all of the time (despite the ads, they are not a thing of beauty) and sometimes I want to take it with me.
Decide on a budget and then get advice from a specialist computer shop or go to the DELL website and they have a guide.

You get better value for money with a desktop machine i.e. more power for less money. It is also easier to repair and upgrade, just take it to any computer shop.
Laptops have few upgrade options and often have to be sent back to the manufacturer if you need repair. The one advantage of a laptop is portability.
Your options may depend on your budget e.g. if you have £1200 you could buy one high spec laptop OR a cheap laptop and a mid spec desktop that could be upgraded in the future.

Consider how you intend to use the machine. At a single place? or are you likely to want to use the machine on the move? My wife and I are family historians and like to take our work with us, So we use laptops. But I have found a laptop less upgradeable than a desktop, less reliable and also more expensive. If you do go down the laptop route, I would buy a separate keyboard, mouse and monitor. I find using a laptop keyboard for extended periods less comfortable and a separate screen allows you to adjust your viewing position (better when you have a bad back like me!)

More a question of what would suit you better. I too am looking to buy a computer and have decided on a laptop for mobility, I like to write but hate to be confined to my house, Performance wise there is little between them.

It depends what you want it for. I'm using a laptop, but you can't do foreign characters on it (unless you copy & paste) also you can replace parts of a computer if they go wrong, the laptop is all one unit. On my laptop the keys stick, so I have to use a seperate keyboard with it, which is a pain.

A laptop if you need to be mobile and work any place. A computer if you don't need to transport it around. It takes getting used to a laptop and you need to lug it around though you do get sleek light ones which are expensive. Make sure you get the right configuration depending on the use.
