"GABBA" is a shortened version of WOOLOONGABBA.That is the name of the suburb of Brisbane where the ground is located.WOOLOONGABBA is an aboriginal word meaning "meeting place of waters".The whole area used to swamp land.

The Brisbane Cricket Ground is a major sports in the Queensland capkital of Brisbane. It is colloquially known as The Gabba because it is located in the suburbs of Woolloongabba.

There is no other historic or significant reason why the Brisbane Cricket ground is known as Gabba
