While England will not be able to retain the Ashes, one expect them to give better fight to Australia atleast in the remaining matches to keep alive their prestige.

The one thing that Engalnd has that australia doesn't right now is the ashes. They know they are good enough to win the ashes. The England players have good batting averages, know how to hit every shot in the book, and on a good day, are a match for Australia. The problem now is getting them to believe it. I think this thrashing in the first test will not be the demoralising flogging that everyone thinks it is. Look at the reality: Australia has one nearly every game it has ever played at the GABBA. Thats a fair task to beat. This thashing is what will wake the POMS up and fire them up. Flintoff will rally his troops, ans come back with more fire than Australia can handle. Bring in Panesar and Mahmood, drop Anderson and Giles, and rip into it! Harmison is too good a player to be kept down. He started to find his line and length a bit, but was just plain tired. After a few days off, he will be fresh, revived, and knocking off Pontings Helmet. Australia has to win, not draw the series. All I can say is beware the Sleeping Lion, once it wakes up, there will be fearful retribution.

In a word No,
England are fantastic at bravely fighting for a piddly amount and we are the worlds best at having top, middle and lower order batting collapses. With no Trescothick and Harmison not fit, we might as well hand the ashes over and throw another shrimp on the barbie

If the Aussie players are on steroids, the English cricketers might as well give them a go. Also Freddy has no action plan to save the 1st test, and the team is hopeless as it stands. They need to bat like crazy in order to win this 1st test, and then drop Geraint Jones for Chris Read and Giles for Panesar, and tell the batsmen to perform like international players. Otherwise they might as well come home early, cos we all know the One dayers is going to be a waste of time.

First of all the first test isnt over yet. Miracles can happen and England could salvage a draw. I also believe that the English are cleaner players than the Aussies who are on steriods and other dope. I know that the English can surely turn things around and eventually retain the ashes.

Although I hate cricket, I hate arrogant Aussies more, so I'd like England to win. The lesser of two evils.
