The Stones are such an overrated 60's band. they started in the mid -60's doing run of the mill R&B covers while Pretty Things and Them were doing similar music but with a much edgier and original sound. They had some good 60's songs, but Small Faces were a better song-writing group with a fresher sound. I just don't know why the Stones have so many fans when other bands were doing exactly the same thing but doing it much better. As for the Beatles of course they're just a pop band but they're one of the best of all time. In fact all bands are pop bands, the majority of fans get into a band's music through a hook, melody or instrumental break not necessarily because of musical talent or originality (neither which would ever apply to the Stones anyway.) The Beatles were expert song writers and thats why I love them, but when they're apparently being original (Sgt Peppers White album...) I think they're pretty boring.
I do however love late 60's/early 70's Stones when they really came into their and filled the gap that had been created by the demise of the Beatles. But they don't hold a candle to the Faces in the 1970's who did the whole bluesy sound much more effectively. If you compare the songs of both, the Beatles come out on top, and it just isn't a fair comparison because the Stones are still finding their feet but by the late sixties the Stones are a much more relevant band than Beatles. Alright I've rambled but what I'm trying to say is this, when the Beatles were at their peak they were at the top of the tree in a league of their own, but when the Stones at their peak there are other bands doing the same but much more effectively. So I'm going with the Beatles

The Rolling Stones might have the cool factor, but I prefer The Beatles. The Beatles were better song writers, performers, have a bigger fan base, and had a huge influence on pop culture.

Beatles, although there will be nothing new, thier music will always be classic. The source of a new genre in music. The stones are still producing the same quality but even new music doesn't grab the soul the way John Lennon did.
